Something I’ve learnt this past year…

Second year has come and gone.

Bad decisions were made and life lessons learnt. I cannot say I will not make those choices again but all events are part of the learning curve. I have experienced a lot during my second year of university (that I may delve into in later posts) however what I will say is that I did not know how strong I was until I went through it.

I always ignored when people said “know yourself”. It wasn’t until I was truly alone that I understood what it meant. Self-meditation and reflection are so important for ones own health. We live in a busy and fast paced world where we do not take the time to be with ourselves. When you are away from everything and you’ve removed yourself from social media and contact you begin to think. You aren’t going through the daily motions of life but rather pausing.

In that time, I came to understand what I wanted in life. Why I was at university. What made me happy. Why I was angry. The reasons behind the bad decisions I had made.

I realised I did not know who I was before. I had no clue what I really stood for.

Who was I as a person?

It would be so easy to ignore all this but then you are missing the chance to truly see your own potential. Once you understand who you are; you get the decisions you do or do not make. It opens your eyes to the path you want to take in life. I had made choices that would not have been made if I had gotten in touch with ‘the silence within myself’.

If there is anything you got from this, is that you should listen to that quiet part of your soul. The one that gets drowned out by the constant hustle and bustle of the outside world.

Take time for you.
